Half Life Chernobyl
In 1995, I photographed my first project in Ukraine and the post-Soviet region; it dealt with the consequences of the Chernobyl reactor disaster. I worked in the exclusion zone, portrayed victims of the catastrophe in hospitals, and documented life in Kyiv.
In 2015, I returned to the exclusion zone to research and photograph nature’s reclamation of the area. The near absence of humans has allowed an independent, uncontrolled ecosystem with great biodiversity to develop there.
The third part of the book and exhibition project “Half Life Chernobyl” documents the situation in Kyiv after the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression.
